The AC Flora Boys Varsity Golf Team was invited to The Battle of the Dam Invitational at Lake Murray, South Carolina, which of course, begs the joke:

Q. What did the fish say when when it swam into the concrete wall?
A. Dam.

The AC Flora Varsity canoed up to Chapin on Wednesday and sat in traffic on Thursday in Lexington to participate in the annual Battle of the Dam golf tournament, a 36 hole event split between Timberlake Golf Club in Chapin, South Carolina, and Golden Hills Golf Club in Lexington, South Carolina.

Anyhoo, Our Boys chalked up a 6th place finish out of the 17 teams vying for the title of “Dam Best”.

On Wednesday, the boys did well:

Rence O’Connor 83
Marshall Douglas 90
Mitchell McCabe 91
Will Barnes 88
Charles Cauthen 82
The team carded a 343 and found themselves in a disappointing 7th place of 17 teams.

The next day was greatly improved at Golden Hills:

Rence O’Connor 83
Marshall Douglas 81
Mitchell McCabe 91
Charles Cauthen 74
Willl Barnes 88

The Falcons finished 6th with a team score of 343+326=669.

“We had some beautiful weather, but we are still trying to shake off the rust from all the rain and find our first win of the season,” reflected Legendary Head Coach Robert L. Dargan. “The boys battled hard and I saw a lot of solid stuff from them.”

He went on to say, “They got better as the tournament went on. That’s a testament to their mental strength. Flora has a long history of winning golf with many other winning sports. That shined through as they worked through each round.

“Our putting needs to improve,” The Legend continued. “I have no doubt they will put in the work and we will be up there near the top of the leaderboard in no time.”

Next up, Our Boys will be in Blythewood for the Bengal Invitational, and in Greenwood for the Viking Invitational.

A select squad will also be traveling to Atlanta for the Georgia-South Carolina Cup as well.

“Our best golf is in front of us!”

Golf is cool.
