The season finale at Falcon Field turned sweet for the home team as we rolled up 11 runs and “mercy ruled” the Blue Devils from Dreher 11-1. Caleb Speedy (5-0-CG) picked up the win on the mound surrendering only 1 hit in 6 innings of work. Caleb did surrender 4 free passes while striking out 5. “Caleb grinded through 6 innings, but he battled and gave us a chance to win the game”.
The offense would get us on the board in the first inning. Leighton Long and Baker Cox would both single and we would load the bases with 1 out. A Shane Keup’s wild pitch allowed one run to score as we would squander a golden opportunity in the first inning to put up a “crooked number”.
We did continue to have a good night at the plate, as we banged out 9 hits and drew 9 free passes. The big inning was once again our calling card as we put up five runs in the sixth inning for a walk off win. The inning would begin as Michael Wright would get hit by a pitch, Tanner Bethea would single followed by back to back walks to Jack Reynolds and Caleb Speedy. An error on a ball put in play by Leighton Long, and a double by Baker Cox would see us go up big. A bases loaded walk to Harmon Cox would secure our 11-1 walk off win and conclude a 10-0 Region record.
Keup took the loss for Dreher. He lasted three innings, allowing six hits and six runs while striking out four.
Our offense tallied nine hits on the day. Baker Cox (2-4, 2 RBI) and Leighton Long (2-5, 2 RBI) paced the offense. Michael Wright would reach base 3 times, Jack Reynolds scored 2 runs and Coleman Ramos would draw 2 base on balls on he night. Our biggest team strength would continue as we did not commit an error in the field. Cox had the most chances in the field with ten.
Luke Reynolds went 1-for-3 at the plate to lead Dreher in hits.
