A.C. Flora Falcons Boy’s Lacrosse falls to Oceanside Collegiate Academy 4 – 9 Saturday afternoon. The Falcons are 6 – 1 after suffering their first loss of the season. With the uncertainty surrounding COVID – 19 and the pending threat of the remainder of the season being suspended, the reality that this might have been the way the season ends loomed heavy immediately following the game.

The atmosphere was intense as fans eagerly awaited the opening face off. From the very beginning, Oceanside gained control and maintained it early during the 1st quarter. Once the Falcons possessed the ball, Lee Scarborough would score at the 9:24 mark giving the Falcons a 1-0 lead. Oceanside would tie things up a little less than two minutes later. William King added a goal to the give the Falcons another lead. Oceanside would add two additional goals to take a 2-3 lead at the end of the 1st quarter.

The 2nd quarter would see the Falcons score its final goal of the game when Mac Overbay scored with 1:14 left in the half. The Falcons fought diligently during the second half. Mac Overbay added a goal in the 3rd quarter. However, the defending State Champions, Oceanside, prevailed.

The highlight of the game was the impromptu celebration following the game honoring the seniors and their parents. Senior players are; Harper Fordham, William King, Lee Scarborough, Connor Freeman, Mac Overbay, Will Cantrell, Philip Koutrakos and Caleb Lanier.

As I have sat with this result the past 24 hours, wondering what I could possibly say at the idea that this may be the last game of the season, I was left with a few poignant thoughts. First, I love this team! I love the camaraderie they share. It is a true joy following Falcon lacrosse. Second, I love the devoted fans, who travel near and far to support our team! I love that we sit through cold, rain, and heat to cheer our team on. Third, I love that the coaches have created a winning culture, one that we can be all extremely proud of. I hope for the sake of our seniors, the players, and fans that this team will have the opportunity to play again this season.

We are proud. This is a special team!
