First Quarter:

The Falcons send Charlie Griffin to the centerline for the face off. The teams jockey for position as the ball squirts towards the sideline. Griffin is about to scoop a grounder when the ref calls a push on Flors and gives posession to Eastside.

No worries Falcon fans, Flora steals it back and runs a play from X. William Hough finds Andrew Tucker in the middle. Tucker takes the pass and flicks it in for the Falcons first goal of the night. 1-0

Working quickly, the Falcons stay on offense after the next face-off. Duncan Moorman slices through Eastside defenders and scores unassisted. 2-0

Following a pattern that served them well the previous two games, the Falcons’ offense maintains constant pressure from the start. Ball control keeps the pressure on Eastside, as Charlie Griffin takes matters into his own hands. Sliding off a defender, he shoots for an unassisted goal. 3-0

Unrelenting, Flora wins the face-off, and Hayes Hilton steaks up right side. He hits Moorman in the middle who tosses it for another Falcon score. 4-0

Eastside’s defense scrambles to knock the Flora’s ball control offense off balance. One of the d-poles is finally able to snag a ground ball, only to lose it again as Hough delivers a solid hit. It squirts away before Ailliam can get a shot off, but the vigilant AC Attack maintains possession.

Seconds later, Gallagher gets an assist as Hubbard scores, stretching the lead to 5-0.

Eastside takes over on offense and works the ball upfield. Their first shot misses wide left, but they keep possession. The d-line harasses Eastside and Condon picks up a ground ball.

After clearing upfield, the Falcons switch to a more controlled tempo. They move the ball around the perimeter, looking for an opening. Griffin and Smith take shots, but the Eastside goalie manages to deflect both.

After trading ends of the field, Gallagher has the ball. Like a proverbial hot knife through butter, George cuts through Eastside defenders and fires one home for an unassisted goal. 6-0

As the rain gets colder, Gallagher just keeps getting hotter. He picks up a ground ball and lets loose a bullet for another goal only seconds before the horn sounds. 7-0

2nd Quarter:

Howard faces off and scoops up a loose ball. Staying with a ball control offense, Moorman hits Smith on the left side. Braden spots a seem and shoots for another Falcon goal to open the quarter. 8-0

The Falcons offense is firing on all cylinders tonight, as Hough swings around from behind the right side of the crease. He jukes a defender and pitches one home for another Flora score. 9-0

Keeping the pressure on, Flora stays on offense, working the hall on the outside. Moorman steps in the middle, drawing multiple defenders. He passes to an open Griffin who scores. 10-0

Hough picks up another assist, hitting Griffin on the right side for a goal. 11-0

Howard continues to dominate face-offs, keeping the Eastside defense on its heels. Newton Grier steps in the line and picks up an assist. He swings the ball to Gallagher, who shows a nifty spin move before another score to log a hat trick. 12-0

This Eastside JV Team may be small in stature, but they’re stout in spirit. The defense comes after Flora, but Falcon attacks maintain an even tempo until an errant pass gives possession back to Eastside.

Eastside is showing solid ball control but can’t find an opening. Howard intercepts a pass and slings it down to Winegard. The ball bounces out of bounds as a cold steady rain continues to fall.

The Falcons regain possession , and the Eastside goalie makes another impressive stop. His clearing pass is deflected, and everyone is looking upfield for the ball. Everyone except Spencer Ingram who eyes the loose grounder. He scoops and scores one-on-one, putting the Falcons up 13-0 as the horn sounds for halftime.

Halftime: Flora – 13. Eastside – 0

3rd Quarter:

Picking right up from the first half, Flora controls the face off and moves upfield. Tucker hits Ingram in the middle for another Falcon score. 14-0

Once again on offense, Tucker spies Winegard open on the wing. Fletch winds up and scores. 15-0

Not to be left out, Laney gets an assist, passing to Baker who shoots and scores. 16-0

Eastside takes possession from the face-off. But Flora’s D harassed their attack and forces a ground ball. An impressive display of diverse skills, Flynn Bowie scoops the grounder, streaks up the field, cuts past a defender, and lets loose a cannon shot. The goalie could only watch as the ball whizzed by his ear high and right for the unassisted score. 17-0

Eastside gets the ball and demonstrates patience with ball control of their own. Passing it around the outside, their attacks look for an opening. But the Falcons keep up a solid defense and allow no easy openings tonight.

A deflected shot bounces harmlessly wide of the mark. Bowie is flagged for a check as the rain does nothing to dampen Falcon spirits. Eastside isn’t able to levarage the man-up advantage. The horn sounds ending the period as the teams turn for the homestretch. 17-0

4th Quarter:

On an equipment check, Moorman is penalized for an illegal stick (width was a half inch less than required), giving Eastside a two man advantage.

Eastside digs in and gains possession off the face-off. Working the ball around the horn, they convert the power play for their first score of the game. 17-1

Returning to impressive ball control on offense, Flora whips the ball around the horn. Winegard, Ingram, and Grier shoot, but all three fly high of the goal.

Eastside goes on offense. A bounce shot skips harmlessly across in front of the goal and out of bounds.

Flora works the ball around without taking any more shots as the final horn sounds.

To be honest Falcon Fanz, this might have been the night to watch the game live on YouTube. A soggy but boisterous crowd braved rain reminiscent of the Spring Valley game with a wind and penetrating chill of the Chapin game. A solid performance in every phase of the game was about the only thing that could warm the Flora Fathful on this chilly return to their home field.

See you back here Monday evening as the Falcons take on cross-town rival Hammond. The JV game is slated to start at 5:30.
