Game Recap

Max Childress’ pick six couldn’t pull the Flora Falcons ahead of the Lower Richland High School Diamond Hornets in a Regional Match for the Junior Varsity.

Coach Hunter has a vision for The Falcons and leads them with a heart of gold. The assistant coaches understand that JV is a developmental team, and the future of Falcon Football is not our W/L ratio on Junior Varsity, but the overall talent and development, all the while dealing with adolescents, not NFL or College Boys. We are lucky to have them as our leaders, because all of these boys only have one childhood.

Effort by Our Boys could not overcome yellow flags and really fast Diamond Hornets.

The future is bright for The Flocking Fowl.

Coach Collin Drafts is a brilliant football man, and we need to give him his due.
Tomorrow, the team will have its traditional pregame meal and inspirational meeting at a local church; voluntary, of course.

I know the bus driver personally.

Go Birds!

Multiple Teams · AC Flora High School Cross Country: The 4-1-1 on the 4/11

The eleven days of October 7 – 17, 2017, went by fast indeed for Flora’s Cross Country teams! They competed in four races, each just days apart, and made each one count. Read on for race recaps and highlights.

Darlington Carnival, 10/7:

The hectic schedule began with the Darlington race where both the Girls Varsity and JV teams kicked things off by winning 1st place! Varsity highlights included: Hannah Twine finishing 1st with a time of 18:31, Pippa Richter taking 3rd with her 19:16 season’s best (SB) run to date, and Kylee Fulton taking 7th with her SB run of 20:25. Sarah Davis also had a great day with a 20:49 SB run that gave her 12th place.

JV highlights included: Mae Reagle taking 1st with a 22:05 SB time, followed by Emma Britt in 3rd, Judith Shaver in 5th, and Juliet Swaim in 7th. Salley Grimsley and Lane Poteat enjoyed SB runs this day too.

Boys Varsity and JV finished well also, with the teams taking 4th and 3rd respectively. On Varsity, Daniel Finger placed 17th overall coming in at 17:40, with James Davis and Micah Eargle close behind placing 21st and 22nd respectively.

On JV, an impressive run by Orie Lindler (19:25) placed him 11th overall with several fellow runners placing in the 20’s: Salvador Ruiz, Myles Hedgecock, Dowling Riley, Jonathan Pertile, Charlie Riley, and
William Hamilton. Meet Patel and Campbell Cecchini enjoyed SB runs.

Richland One District Championships, 10/11:

Next up, Flora hosted the district championships at the Old Columbia Speedway and saw as its reward, for all the hot prep work it took to get the course in shape, a 1st place finish for each team! #FalconPride #Falconstrong

Girls V: 7 girls placed in the top 10: Hannah Twine 1st, Pippa Richter 2nd, Karina Tata 5th, Sarah Davis 6th, Emily Loman 7th (with a SB run of 21:33), Kylee Fulton 8th, and Emily Hogue 10th.

Girls JV: 6 girls placed in the top 10: Mae Reagle 1st, Audrey Galimba 2nd, Caroline Amrol 3rd, Judith Shaver 5th, and Anna Timbes 10th.

Boys V: 6 boys placed in the top 10: Daniel Finger 1st, James Davis 2nd, Micah Eargle 3rd, Colin Sauls 7th, Colin Mitchell 8th, and Carlisle Kelly 10th.

JV Boys: 7 boys placed in the top 10: Jalil Wong-Singley 1st, Ian Reagle 3rd, William Hamilton 6th, Orie Lindler 7th, Dowling Riley 8th, Tyler Jeffers 9th, and Manning Barwick 10th. Walker Weaver and William Zimmerman both managed somehow to turn out a SB run this very hot day, good job!

Sandhills Invitational, 10/14:

With some cooler temps, we had a great race day and several runners gave their season’s best time to date. Girls Varsity placed 4th out of 29 teams with Hannah Twine placing 2nd overall with a time of 18:35 (earning her recognition as one of only 3 girls there to meet the MileSplit US Gold Team Standard – congratulations!) and Pippa Richter placing 9th (meeting the Silver Team Standard – congratulations!). Emily Hogue and Judith Shaver gave SB runs of 21:30 and 22:20, respectively.

In Boys Varsity, all nine boys running finished in under 19 minutes! Daniel Finger finished first for the team (32nd overall with a time of 16:47) with Micah Eargle coming in next at a 17:35 SB (80th overall). Other V boys running SB’s were: Colin Mitchell, Tyler Jeffers, Myles Hedgecock, and Colin Sauls.

In JV Girls, 6 girls ran their season best: Audrey Galimba (finishing 1st for the team and placing 13th overall with a time of 22:26), Emma Britt (placing 14th), Juliet Swaim, Jenna Strickland, Maddie Verzyl, and Susannah McInnis.

In JV Boys, 9 boys ran SB’s: Orie Lindler (finishing 1st for the team and placing 47th overall with a time of 19:25, Holden Mccullough (finishing 2nd for the team with his first sub-20, congrats), Jonathan Pertile (coming in at 20:00), Noah Claypool, Jack Rentiers, Ben Porter, Will Kepley, Winston Ridley, and Cort Turner.

Region 5 – 4A Championships, 10/17:

Once again, back at the Speedway, though thankfully with cooler temps this time, the Girls Varsity team came out on top! Team members Hannah Twine (1st), Pippa Richter (3rd), Karina Tata (5th) and Kylee Fulton (8th) were recognized, and Hannah was named Region MVP – congrats!

The Boys Varsity team saw several exciting finishes and 1st place was nearly in their grasp but as Max on Get Smart would say, they “missed it by THAT much”. Individually, Daniel Finger, James Davis, and Micah Eargle finished 3rd, 4th and 5th respectively with each shaving roughly a minute from their times on the same course just one week ago! Way to go guys!

Congratulations to all the runners on their accomplishments and for making it through these FAST past few days!
