On Thursday evening we celebrated the Falcon Nation athletes’ spring accomplishments at the annual Spring Sports Awards Night hosted by the AC Flora Athletic Booster Club.

Our 2016-17 school year proved to be another banner year for AC Flora Athletics. We collected 9 Region Championships, 3 Lower State Championships, 1 Upper State Championship, 1 Mid State Championship, 2 team State Championships and 4 individual State Titles. We placed 73 athletes on All-Region teams, and an extraordinary 41 athletes on All-State teams. During the spring season, our teams participated in a total of 66 postseason games. Incredibly over the past 6 years, AC Flora athletes have won 11 individual State Titles and 14 team State Championships. We truly are a Community of Champions.

Falcon Strength had 11 athletes who placed in the top three of their respective classifications and two athletes finished first at the State Meet. Winners of the State Speed and Strength Competition were Melkevis Pearson for the boys and Jerry Delgado for the girls.

Softball navigated through a rash of injuries to key players throughout the season. Even with the injuries, the team made the state playoffs in back-to-back years for the first time in 8 years.

Girls Soccer finished the year with an overall record of 8-11-1 which includes an even 4-4 record in the Region. The team combined for a total of 66 goals scored this year while only giving up 36. Six of their wins came via shutout.

Our Boys Soccer team finished the season 17-7 overall and 6-2 in the region. The boys finished the year as Region Co-champions, advanced to the 3rd round of the State Playoffs, and were ranked #5 in the state at season’s end on Max Preps. Not only did they succeed on the field, but they also won the NSCAA Team Academic Award and were recognized as having the 4th highest Team GPA in the country.

Boys and Girls Track had another successful season. Tyler Jeffers is the 2017 Class AAAA Boys 800m State Champion. As a whole, the boys team finished 3rd in both the District and Region meets, and our girls team improved to 2nd in the District and Region. Our boys team went on to finish 12th in the state while our girls team improved from 15th in 2016 to 8th in the state in 2017.

Girls Lacrosse accomplished many firsts for our program. These achievements led us to our first top-8 finish in the state, hosting our first-ever home playoff game, advancing to the 2nd round of the playoffs for the first time in school history, and seeing Katherine Cromer become the first player in school history to break the 100-goal barrier.

The 2017 AAAA Upper State Champion and State Runner-up Boys Lacrosse team finished with a winning record of 13-4, which marks the highest win total in school history. The team earned a #1 seed in the Upper State, and they advanced to the State Finals for the first time in school history.

The 2017 AAAA Lower State Champion and State Runner-Up Boys Tennis team won their 4th consecutive Region Championship and made their 4th consecutive trip to the State Finals. Our boys finished the season with a 16-2 overall record and a 5-1 Region record. We placed two players, Lukas McClamrock and Zach Kirkland, in the State Singles Tournament and will have two players, Tally Moorman and Hampton Williams, along with Coach Amy Martin, participate in the North-South All-Star Event this summer. Our Falcon Tennis team was also invited for the first time to participate in the DecoTurf National Tennis Championships in Chattanooga, Tennessee this past March. Coach Amy Martin was named Region Coach of the Year.

Our 2017 AAAA State Champion Baseball team finished the year with a record of 25-7 and most importantly, 8-0 in the playoffs. Our team earned 5 championships throughout the season as they won the Nature-Chem Pre-season Tournament, Region V-AAAA Championship, Class AAAA District 5 Championship, SC AAAA Lower State Championship, and finally, the 4th State Championship in the last 6 years. This is the program’s 6th State Championship for the program. Our Falcons went undefeated in the state playoffs for only the 2nd time in school history outscoring opponents 74-18 along the way. The Falcon Baseball team also placed Charles Chapman and Coleman Pope on the North-South All-Star Team. Coach Andy Hallett was named Region Coach of the Year.

Our 2017 AAAA State Champion Boys Golf Team earned that title for the 8th consecutive year and their 14th State Championship in program history. Our team finished the season with an overall record of 194-26 and won 7 tournaments along the way. The team had great leadership from its 4 seniors and swept the playoffs winning the Region, Lower State and State Championship. During the State Tournament, we found ourselves 3 shots back after day 1 and then stormed back to win by 10 strokes. We were 23 over par early in day two, yet finished the day 7 under. Coach Robert Dargan was named Region Coach of the Year.

Many of our athletes participate in more than one sport. This year 2 out of our 673 total student-athletes lettered in 3 varsity sports. This dedication to our athletic program is certainly deserving of special recognition. Congratulations to our 3-sport athletes Lukas McClamrock and Claudia DuBose. Lukas lettered in Cross Country, Track and Field, and Tennis. Claudia lettered in Competitive Cheer, Basketball, and Softball – spanning all 3 sports seasons.

We would also like to recognize two other people who contribute greatly to the success of AC Flora Athletics. Both of our Athletic Trainers, Head Athletic Trainer Ryan Lail and Graduate Assistant Molly Harris, serve our entire athletic department with the upmost care and professionalism.  Thank you both for what you do for our athletes.

Katherine Cromer and Coleman Pope were awarded the Sisk-Reynolds Awards by Principal Richard McClure. The Sisk-Reynolds Award recognizes the best all-around female and male athletes.

There were 178 varsity spring athletes. 143 athletes had a GPA of 3.5 or higher, 117 had a 4.0 or higher, 56 had a 4.5 or higher and 8 had a 5.0 or higher.
