AC Flora High School
The JV boys’ lacrosse team took on the Irmo Yellow Jackets Wednesday night at W.C. Hawkins Stadium. In the first quarter, Irmo struck first and then added another goal to go up 2-0 over A.C. Flora. They extended the lead to 3-0 in the second quarter, but the Falcons rallied back. Charlie Riley scored with an assist from Henry Gibson to break the ice. At the half, it was 3-1 Irmo.
The third quarter featured strong defensive play from both teams. The Falcons managed to shut down the Yellow Jacket offense for the entire quarter. Unfortunately, Irmo’s goalie made some key saves to keep the Falcons off the scoreboard as well.
The fourth quarter belonged to the Falcons offense. Will Laney scored, unassisted, to bring the game within one. The defense remained stout, forcing takeaways and keeping Irmo off the scoreboard for the entire second half. With 00:45 remaining in the game, Owen Fisher hit Charlie Riley with a great pass. Riley put it past the goalie, tying the game at 3 apiece.
The Falcons won the faceoff and put all the pressure they could on the Yellow Jacket defense. 45 seconds was not enough time, however, and the game ended in a 3-3 tie. With the varsity game coming up, no overtime period was played.
